Hummingbird Symbolism

Hummingbirds are magical little creatures with the spirits of sprites. I was fortunate enough to have been visited by one of these little beings of light two days in a row. These beautifully assorted friends symbolize joy, swiftness, and endurance.

They are seen as a sign of happiness due to their uplifting, whimsical nature. Their wings beat so fast we cannot even see them move as if they are propelled by sheer pixie dust. The bright coloring of their plumage stimulates the euphoric energies of our being, and their taste for delicious nectar fills us with their same sweet disposition.

As their wings move faster than the eye can see, hummingbirds are able to hover with immense agility as they change direction and pace at the drop of a dime. They are the only birds who can fly forward and backward as well as side to side. The complexity of their movements paired with their high energy can be hard to keep up with at times, especially while trying to capture a mesmerizing picture like the one above.

Hummingbirds are able to showcase their endurance through their determination to reach the delectable nectar deep within each flower. Sometimes they have to sift through bitter and tough outer layers in order to reach their liquid gold. Hummingbirds can also travel extremely long distances, (even over large bodies of water), in a single trip.

Hummingbird Message

Hummingbirds remind us that life is not as serious as we think, and can be experienced with a lighthearted smile. It is okay to believe in magic and the unknown mysteries of life that make our heart flutter. We are encouraged to continue to have faith in the positive wonders that life has to bring. There are more than enough reasons to find simple delights in the world around us.

The swift movements of not only the wings of a hummingbird, but also their patterns of flight show us that we are capable of infinite combinations of infinite possibilities. They share the knowledge that we are limitless in our movements, decisions, and actions. We are capable of flexibility when faced with instant change as we swiftly adjust to the elements. Hummingbirds spread the message that we are able, competent beings.

Finally, we are being told that if we are hardworking and determined, we will be able to experience the sweet victory of achieving our goals. It is important to never give up because success can be just around the corner as we remain tenaciously focused. There are various treasures that we each hold near and dear to our hearts. We all have the potential to bask in the wealth of our own riches.

Let’s keep our senses open to these uplifting workers as they pollinate the beautiful flowers that surround us during this time. We must enjoy the little things in life with energy and determination as we work toward our goals. Believe in the magic we hold Eternal Waking Beauties because we are powerful and sweet beings just like the beautiful Hummingbird.

Positive Affirmation of the Day: Deserving

“Gander at the Gander” – Eternal Waking Beauties

“I deserve everything I want because it is everything I need to fulfill my purpose.” -Eternal Waking Beauties 🌸🌍💫

• • • • • • • • • • • •

How do we decide what we truly deserve in life? What makes us believe we are doing something that merits the benefits life has to offer? Why would we believe we are ever undeserving of a euphoric life of bliss? How do we find that balance in what we truly need to increase the quality and peace within this existence?

We all have a reason for existing, so why not believe it. Otherwise what is the point of our being here if not for some purpose in each of us. We can learn to hold more compassion and empathy for others once we begin to understand we are all interconnected. If we imagined every stranger to be a relative, would it change our perspective on that individual and their situation?

Even though we are all on different points on various paths, we all serve a purpose. In order to achieve our purpose we need specific skills and tools to plan, create, and build our world around us. We deserve to have these tools as long as we use them with proper intention toward achieving our destinies. So manifest your toolkit and begin designing your life to create your future.

Without Fail

Photographer: Brooke Shaden

The young apprentice arises from her fallen heap.

I remember those times

those days

those nights

those weeks.

Toil and turmoil boiling over

this tainted and tarnished bliss.

We stand.

We fight.

We thrive

and do more than survive

for living is the most ethereal experience we are given in this dawn.

Awaken from this gruesome slumber you once called a home.

It is time to give it our all

just as the apprentice arises from her fallen heap.

Owl Visit

burrowing owls
Photographer: Unknown. Our visitors resembled these diurnal Burrowing Owls.

The other night I was fortunate enough to encounter three baby owls. (Since they could fly they were probably adolescents or teens). They fluttered between the huge evergreens that line the backyard occasionally diving onto the grass to pick up bits of food. The little babes were very aware of my presence (and my flame’s). Their glowing, yellow eyes appeared to be staring straight into my soul dissecting my very existence.

We gave them the names Artemis, Archimedes, and Athena. Artemis is the Greek Goddess of the hunt, chastity and nature; a strong and athletic female archetype, Archimedes is a Greek inventor, astronomer, engineer, philosopher and mathematician, and Athena is the Greek Goddess of wisdom, courage and justice. The adorable fledglings began to almost dance with us as we bobbed and weaved our heads at each other – bringing us a beautiful and needed message.

Owls symbolize sage wisdom as they are able to see into the past and future utilizing their microscopic and telescopic vision. Having this ability to perceive more than what appears to be in front of us is a magnificent gift. We are able to see past the alluded perception and clearly “read between the lines” on a grander or more precise vantage point. The phrase “remain a silent observer” continued to repeat during their visit. I felt this from the three owls as they keenly watched over us.

It reminded me that listening is a very underestimated and yet, important half of communication. The following day I saw a lecture about how powerful it is to listen to everyone else in the room before voicing one’s own beliefs or opinions. “Silence is golden” as it is the food for our crown chakra, which has been going through a major download over this past week.

When we are silent, we are able to hear more of our surroundings. Owls have a fine tuned sense of hearing. This allows them to find prey they might miss by sight. When we fine tune our own ability to listen, we are able to interpret the true underlying meaning of the words we are hearing. Finding the truth in cryptic messages builds our understanding of others, the world, and life.

Owl totems are also considered omens of death in many cultures. My personal interpretation to their visit was the death of a facet of ourselves (not physical death). The transformations we have all been undergoing have moments of extreme intensity as we shed pieces of ourselves and our pasts. We are asked to release these fears that continuously hinder our growth.

Letting go of ingrained ways of being is a process and takes time – hence why you have probably heard it repetitively. Just like how one season of heavy rainfall will not account for six years of a drought, one day of actively shedding layers will not account for years upon years of accumulated build up. This can include anything from negative self talk leading to detrimental core beliefs, unproductive and hurtful behavior patterns, or damaging and harmful coping skills.

Keep your eyes open and ears tuned as you enter this month of July. Take heed the owl’s message, and notice your own totems coming into your life Eternal Waking Beauties!

Ego: Our Undervalued Protector

From “The Boy and the Beast”

The vapors of your toxic breath deteriorate my flesh.

My core trembles as you gape into my soul.

Piercing the beauty of my light commanding your deathly sludge to overflow within me

I awaken.

I see you sweet babe as you cry out in fear.

I smell the hurt and anguish roll off your brow.

I taste the poisonous vapor permeating off your meek essence clinging on for dear life.

I hear your whimpering sobs terrified of what is to be.

I feel every minute beat of your slowly breaking heart.

You are me and I am you my petrified ego.

You work so hard to protect me and yet fill me with a darkness I can no longer live with.

I have ignored you

Cast you aside

Given no acknowledgement to your existence.

It torments you to be ignored

After you have slaved tirelessly just for me.

You try so hard to be seen, be heard, be felt, be understood.

I now see you my sweet love.

I now hear your powerful voice rise up within me.

I now feel your fear of forever being invisible and unappreciated.

I now understand your purpose and your love for me.

You are my undervalued protector.

The one who speaks up for me when I cannot find my voice.

The one who shows me strength in my sorrowful cries.

The one who questions the world to ensure my instinct was right.

The one who is forever looking out for me.

Thank you my love. You may rest now.

We don’t need to take arms for there is no war.

We can be strong and at peace. You have taught me this.

I always want you with me. I will never let you go. But we must have faith and come back to a place of love.

The venomous rapture has gone on for far too long.

Protect me in softness and I will embrace you with love.

Deal? Deal.

Thank you again,

I will love you forever my dear ego,

my undervalued protector.

Card of the Day: The Fool

The Fool
Paulina Cassidy’s “Joie de Vivre Tarot” Deck. Picture taken by Eternal Waking Beauties

In my previous post Card of the Day: The Star, I discuss the background of both Tarot and the Major Arcana. Today’s draw is the first card of the Major Arcana in Tarot – 0 The Fool.

Numerology

Zero is the number of an endless, infinite cycle representing the God Force. It is everywhere and nowhere with no beginning nor ending allowing for freedom of limitations. There are endless possibilities when a zero is present. Spirituality is intensified as we become closer to the source of eternity. Zero is the enhancer by amplifying the vibration of the other numbers it appears with. It also symbolizes naivete and uncertainty, which is what the fool exemplifies.

The Fool’s Journey

The Fool embodies each and every one of us born into a world enmeshed in beauty and danger. She is ready to take on the world with a faithful companion when she encounters the Magician (1), who represents the divine masculine and the High Priestess (2), who represents the divine feminine. These two are often interpreted as the opposing forces of yin and yang – darkness and light – feminine and masculine within the Fool.

As the Fool becomes more aware of herself, she begins to notice her surroundings. She meets the Empress (3) and Emperor (4), who assume the role of her parents. The Empress shows loving nourishment, while the Emperor builds structure and authority.

The Fool eventually leaves the nest to confront a world of societal structure in the form of education, religion, and organized norms practiced by the collective. The Heirophant (5) shares culture, beliefs, knowledge, and traditions. They come in the form of teachers, church leaders, and even peers who are more familiar with the guidelines laid out for the masses.

As the Fool grows, she begins to yearn for romantic and sexual companionship depicted by the Lovers (6). The Fool has graduated from being self-centered and egocentric to wanting to learn how to balance and harmonize a relationship with another individual.

The Fool eventually transitions into adulthood as she harnesses her own destiny on the Chariot (7). Basking in her achievements, the Fool displays discipline and control regardless of the rocky path she is on. Challenges and roadblocks continue to try to hinder her progress. The Fool finds Strength (8) as she courageously pushes forward in a soft and loving manner realizing that Strength is not always forceful and domineering.

Finally, the Fool becomes introspective after exploring the outside world. Exhausted from all of the trials and tribulations, esoteric knowledge becomes the key to her existence. As she ponders deeply of the world and life, she begins to Hermit (9) seeking solitude from society. Once the pieces fall into place, the Fool is able to experience the Wheel of Fortune (10). Invisible ties connecting every facet of the universe and world begin to appear in the eyes of the Fool. Fate and destiny play a major role in motivating the Fool to continue on her path.

Through her new lens, the Fool begins to take responsibility for herself as she learns to become accountable for her actions. This is where she meets Justice (11), and pays the dues of her past to begin anew. When new challenges emerge, the Fool must figure out how to handle these situations with her new frame of mind. She learns to let go of control as the Hanged Man (12), while humbled by her new perspective. From this comes the Death (13) of her old ways. She relinquishes the aspects of herself and her life that no longer serve her. Death is the beginning of her transition toward her soul’s purpose.

The Fool discovers that balance is needed to create equilibrium in life. Temperance (14) is necessary to restore harmony within and around her. Shortly after, the Devil (15) appears tempting the Fool with material desires. The Fool finds herself bound to the physical plane lost in ignorant abundance. In order to free herself from the shackles restraining her progress, she must watch the Tower (16) of her ego collapse beneath her feet. As she falls from the tumbling fortress that was once so comfortable, she realizes this catastrophic shift is a blessing in disguise.

The Fool is forced to make another adjustment on her path of development. One night, she becomes mesmerized by the Star (17) renewing all faith and hope. A tranquil calmness washes over her that she wishes to share with the world. Shortly after, the Fool spots the Moon (18) bringing an illusion of fantasy. Swept up in the blissful state of the Star, the Fool is unable to see clearly in the moonlight. Before she is consumed by anxiety and fear, the Sun (19) rises. Rays of warmth and illumination bring clarity and understanding to the Fool restoring her vitality.

The final major advance is made as the Fool assumes her true form. She is fully reborn into her radiant light of purity and love. She passes Judgement (20) on herself as she reflects on her choices throughout her life. The Fool is able to forgive herself and others for the mishaps along the way realizing every step had a purpose. Her vision of truth remains with her as she reenters the World (21) in her enlightened state. The Fool has found peace in the harmony she has created inside of her, and contentment for the life she has manifested around herself.

Everyone is at a different point on the Fool’s Journey in their own lives. It is important not to drown in our thoughts, be consumed by our feelings, or get lost in the world. Practice innocence and faith to continue progressing.

Innocence and Faith

We are being asked to restore our child-like innocence and unwavering faith at this time. This is not to be interpreted as blind ignorance leading to irrational disillusionment. The first definition of innocence according to Mirriam-Webster is “freedom from guilt or sin through being unacquainted with evil.” In Taoism, this is similar to the practice of becoming the “uncarved block”.

There is a simplicity about the person who does not assume the shape that intellectual and societal influences try to impose. Without accumulating the burdens of the world, we are free from gaining karma causing us to backtrack to learn a lesson we already know. We must trust our instinct that clearly distinguishes the choices of love from fear, and follow our soul’s guidance keeping us innocent. This takes a lot of faith in one’s self.

It is hard not to question our original judgement of a situation. However, our souls know what is best for our highest good. We must listen to that little voice and trust in its truth. As stated in the Bible “Then you will know truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32. Jesus is trying to liberate his disciples spiritually from their physical bondage. In doing so, they can liberate themselves from slavery.

If we also have faith in our own truths, we will be able to free ourselves from the confines of what we have been told to be true. No one knows what is better for us and our highest good other than ourselves. No one has had an identical experience to that of our own. No one has stayed by our side for every breath we have taken. No one fully understands the inner workings of our minds, emotions, and processes for they are completely unique to us. Have faith in this process. Have faith in our own capability to make sound decisions. Have faith that we will remain taken care of because we have promised to care for ourselves.

The Fool has come to us to rekindle our sense of innocence and faith. Believe in the power each of them holds to carry you on your path of light and love Eternal Waking Beauties.
