Sturgeon Corn Full Moon
The full moon in August received the name of the “Sturgeon Full Moon” from Native American tribes who knew they could easily find sturgeon in the Great Lakes during this full moon. For them, the sturgeon symbolizes vitality and longevity. They are strong enough to be able to swim against the current to their spawning ground giving us the encouragement and empowerment to do the same. We are being asked to move through difficult times with grace utilizing our instincts.
Other Native American tribes dubbed this full moon the “Corn Full Moon” due to the abundant harvests of corn or maize at this time. Corn is one of the “Three Sisters” along with squash and beans that Native Americans would plant together. For some corn was a deity and for others it was a gift from the Creator bringing protection, luck, nourishment and medicine. Due to these beliefs, corn was often used for spiritual rituals and offerings. It is time to be grateful for all Mother Gaia’s abundance from food to shelter and the rest of life’s necessities such as air and water.
Lunar Eclipse & Full Moon in Aquarius
Lunar eclipses and full moons are both a time of release. Because both of these phenomena are occurring in the sign of Aquarius we are being asked to let go of the “rebel without a cause” aspect in our lives. The worn out teenage immaturity of needing to be right by doing the opposite of what we are told to prove a point and arguing with others over menial disagreements is ready to be over.
It is time to mature in our thought, communication, and behavioral patterns. Being independent is not enough. Right now we need to learn how to become interdependent and come together. We all deserve the best of everything life has to offer. It is important to hone our listening skills to enhance our effectiveness in communication. If our actions are not helping or benefiting others, then they are not actually helping or benefiting ourselves. Let go of all underdeveloped ways of life.
Aquarius is our fixed air sign ruled by Uranus and Saturn. We are at a time of witty intelligence as we exercise our independence. While we exert our own rights and freedoms, we are also being asked to enforce traditions and preserve responsibilities. These traditions and responsibilities are not celebrating holidays nor daily tasks, but grandeur and older.
It is time to go all the way back to our ancestral roots of basic ethical and moral traditions of practicing patience, tolerance, respect, compassion, empathy, harmony, and love. We must also take responsibility of our actions as a whole of all humanity. Giving back to the Earth and preserving clean water and air are greatly needed at this time. Ensuring the care and proper treatment of others, animals, and all life forms is paramount, and our responsibility as the sole conscious life form inhabiting Earth.
Uranus is the planet of progression and ingenuity. It is time for each of us to utilize our strengths and creativity toward new ideas and ways of being for the betterment of ourselves and the conscious whole. Change and progress are necessary as we reroute the path we are on to ensure a better future for everyone. We are progressing the world in a positive way by fulfilling our purpose.
Saturn is the planet of boundaries and limitations. We are being asked to let go of all boundaries and limitations we have built that do not allow us to fulfill our full potential. Now is the time to remove any boxes, labels, or categories that are separating all of us to believe we are so different and not interconnected. These thought processes and practices are creating factions within society when the final stage of maturity is the concept of interdependence – being able to cooperate and work with others. We will not be able to move forward and make changes to be better alone. It is necessary to come together in order to grow with optimum strength through unity.
Lunar Eclipse & Planetary Aspects
Saturn, (the planet of limitations) trines the sun, (the divine masculine: assertiveness, creativity, happiness, warmth) and Uranus (the planet of progression) and sextiles Jupiter, (the planet of growth and prosperity) allowing us to reconstruct the infrastructure of our lives and society with ease. We are more active in the development of our environments as we continue to grow and advance. Fear is being shed as we are seeing the truth of the world around us. Expansion, progress, and prosperity is available to everyone individually and as a whole as we create new boundaries that benefit us all.
Mercury, (the planet of communication and thought processes) opposes Neptune, (the planet of spiritual enlightenment and compassion), sextiles Venus, (the planet of love, pleasure and values), and trines Pluto, (the planet of rebirth, renewal and spiritual growth). The opposition of Mercury and Neptune increases the amount of negligence and uncaring nature in communication. It is important to not allow mind and tongues to run in this detrimental direction by balancing it with the favorable aspects of Mercury with Venus and Pluto. Our creative expression, thoughts and words of love as we uphold our values will help the spiritual renewal and advancement of the collective consciousness.
Deep purples of all sorts will be used for my personal full moon ceremony. I plan on utilizing purple and indigo colored candles including reiki infused healing, harmony, and third eye candles. Dry lavender and lavender essential oils will aid in amplifying calm and balanced energies. My stone of choice for this full moon is Iolite, the stone of realizing one’s spiritual responsibility. It brings joy and inspirational solutions to problems while connecting us with our souls. Iolite is gentle, protective, and unconditionally giving as we work on spiritual healing and psychic development. When aligned with our third eye, Iolite is able to facilitate intuitive insight.
For the full moon paired with the penumbral (partial) lunar eclipse, I will be writing down three major practices I want to release from myself, society, and all of humanity. The three practices I will ask to release are a destructive thought process, communication style and behavior pattern. Once I am done making my list, I will tear it up into tiny pieces and release them in the wind (if there is any) since Aquarius is an air sign.
