King of Our Hearts
“I’m gonna be a mighty king so enemies beware!” sang Simba in on of the most heart wrenching Disney classics, Lion King. I know, I know, corny beginning, but how many of us as kids staring up into Johnathan Taylor Thomas’s large, cartoon lion eyes really believed we would be a “mighty king” one day? What constitutes a “mighty king”? Who is this person we are striving to be? How are we going to become this sign of nobility and honor?
Some might think a “mighty king” is one who rules over others and is in a place of power exercising it how they see fit. Others might believe it is how one practices their leadership roles whether big or small through an ethical morality of the heart. Everyone will have a different definition or perception of this term. Even if some people agree on core characteristics, they may disagree on additional qualities necessary; therefore making no two definitions of a “mighty king” identical.
Honor, integrity, patience, kindness, tolerance, love. Even these words we use to describe how one can attain the “mighty” aspect of being a king, ruler, or leader of some sort will have various meanings based on the person who is defining them. Right now we are all learning what this means to us. I believe we are no longer trying to work hard on becoming someone, but are rather trying to express who we truly are by becoming connected with ourselves.
A Look into Leo
Leo is a fixed fire sign ruled by none other than the sun. Fixed signs are oftentimes very stable, reliable, hard-working, and loyal. Fire signs are creative, energetic, and passionate. The sun is our divine masculine bringing light, warmth, assertion, happiness, and outward expression. Leos tend to like the materialistic gains made in the physical realm of life such as career achievements, financial prosperity, the newest and best of everything from cars to clothes to accessories, and express themselves in their appearance.
Leos can range from money obsessed workaholics, to pampered house pets only concerned about their looks, to loving and nurturing caregivers, to kind and generous saints. There is an array of diversity among each zodiac sign. The sun sits in it’s own sign magnifying the strong and lovable qualities of our gentle lion, as well as the temperamental and controlling aspects of our shallow dictator.
In Tarot, we find the lion represented on the 8th card of the Major Arcana labeled “Strength”. Eight is the number of prosperity, abundance, material gain, and advancement in life paralleling that of Leo. Strength is the card that teaches us that forceful, controlling power is not always the strongest form of strength. In fact, strength is also recognizing to be patient, soft, and gentle in order to achieve a goal or make a point, and is sometimes more effective than the former nature. This is seen in lions for even though they are ferocious and powerful as the leaders, they are still there to protect and care for all in their pride. There must be a loving and nurturing side in order to achieve the strength of the bonds formed between each member of a lion’s pride.
The sun, moon, Mars, and Mercury all sit in Leo during this New Moon cycle. Both our conscious and subconscious, masculine and feminine, and positive and negative qualities are being amplified in the light of a Leo. We are finding our strength, practicing our roar, and learning how to be a leader. At the same time, we are allowing ourselves to be nurturing, loving, understanding, and kind with others and ourselves in all aspects of our lives.
Mars is adding an element of extra assertion in our public lives, and sexual passion in our private lives. We are trying to enhance the quality of each facet in life whether work, relationships, or self. Mercury is giving us a fiery or loving form of communication depending on what type of Leo we are projecting.
Right now, manifestation is everything. We are truly in the driver seat on this one. Everything can go one of two ways depending on what type of “mighty king” we decide we want to be. We are the leader of our lives. We are choosing the decisions we are making. We are creating the reality of our perception. Do we want to be the dreaded dictator or revered ruler? We have this choice.
There is going to be a gigantic triangle on the night of the New Moon as Mercury trines Saturn and Uranus while they trine each other. This is going to allow us to set clearly defined boundaries with others; whether communication is effective or not is up to us. Either way the truth about our limitations in the various parts of our lives are going to be expressed.
Uranus wants freedom from restraints and restrictions. This too will easily be relayed – again it may or may not be healthy or effective communication. We are finally asking for the freedom to be ourselves. Lines of communication are opening up all around us to facilitate speaking our truths about what we do and do not need and want in our lives. It is important to be honest and gentle as we express ourselves in order to maintain integrity in our relationships whether with a boss, partner, friend, or foe.
The difficult aspects of the sky are the harsh squares of Uranus with the sun, moon, and Mars. Our freedom is of the utmost importance to us right now. The ability to be ourselves without remorse is at the forefront of our minds. We are willing to fight over our ability to fly by expressing ourselves and savoring the moments of bliss we have been longing to feel.
There is no more room for apologies, but it doesn’t mean that we did not contribute to the folly of our own situations. We need to be honest with ourselves as well and know where we have set up these parameters for ourselves to fail. It is not just others and the outside world that is hindering our growth; it is also what we have done ourselves that lies within.
Ceremony to Shine
It is time to do some real soul searching and realize what is is we truly want and need. We must also reflect not only at what has happened in the past, but how we contributed to manifesting our current reality. This way when we express ourselves to others we can let them know what is truly their part, while accepting responsibility for our own. Continue dreaming big and working toward your goals because we deserve all of the happiness and contentment we desire. Planetary aspects are aiding us in various avenues of communication which is the core of all relationships – even with ourselves. Placements are making room for love, softness, and nurturing during these moments.
For this ceremony visualize what it is you want to manifest in yourself, in your life, and in the world. What kind of person do you want to be? What kind of people do you want in your life? What kind of things do you want to achieve? What kind of impact do you want to make? Focus on three major shifts you want to make both inside and outside of yourself and your life. Ask for aid from your guides in manifesting and achieving your soul’s aligned desires. Visualize your perfect world. Feel what it is like to live in that life. Know, believe, and trust that you can achieve all of that and more.
The tools I would use for this ceremony would be some open roads incense for manifesting after a good smudging with white sage, and red, orange, yellow, and white candles to capture purity, stability, creativity, and happiness. I would also include rose, amber, and lavender incense to bring love, light, and peacefulness to this lunar cycle. My stone of choice for this ceremony would be Sunstone.
Sunstone harnesses the energy and light of a sun in a stone similar to our solar plexus. It brings about qualities of warmth, happiness, and light. Sunstone gives us confidence and assertion as we face various endeavors. Wearing Sunstone amplifies our own light empowering our true form in the physical realm. If you are dealing with depression, loss, or grief, Sunstones are a great “pick-me-up” uplifting our souls.
